The latest edition of Ride Smart - our free safety magazine for motorcyclists - has been published.
Free copies of the magazine are available from motorcycle retailers across the county as well as many pubs and cafes that are popular with riders. Ride Smart magazine is also available to read on our motorcycling page.
Andy Adlington, the partnership’s motorcycle safety officer, said: We want to help everyone who rides in the Derbyshire countryside to become a better biker. That’s why Ride Smart is packed full of great advice about keeping safe while enjoying the freedom of the road.
“Readers can also learn about all the great training discounts we offer to bikers wishing to upgrade their skills. We’ve got something for everyone from complete beginners to those with many years of experience.
During the leisure biking season, Derbyshire police will be making their presence felt on the countryside roads where bikers are regularly getting killed or hurt. Thanks to funding from Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, they will be running an operation designed to prevent countryside crashes involving motorcyclists.
Operation Safe Ride is due to be launched on Good Friday (3 April) and will run on weekends and selected evenings until September. During that time, marked and unmarked vehicles will be used to carry out speed detection and patrols on routes with high casualty figures.
PC Adam Titterton said: “We’re running Operation Safe Ride because a disproportionately high number of motorcyclists are getting killed or seriously hurt here.
“Bikers from across the country love to visit but they are often unaware of the challenges presented by the landscape. We don’t want to put people off from visiting - but we do want them to do so safely so they can return year after year.”
Adam Titterton added: “We will focus on the small number of riders who create the greatest risk.”
